Love Is In The Air

Sant JordiThe Barcelona or Catalan version of Valentine’s Day is called Sant Jordi and takes place on 23 April. It is a day for all the friends and lovers.

Traditionally men give women roses and women give men books. As we now live in modern times anybody can be given a little present, even between friends it is now quite common.

Sant Jordi is not a public holiday and the shops are open but Barcelona has the atmosphere of it being another fiesta. There’s a surprise for you! Friends and lovers stroll through the glorious sunshine hand in hand or enjoy a glass of champagne.

In many places like Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya and Plaza Jaume are stalls selling books and roses. It is a far less commercialised event than in many other countries yet it is rather more special and romantic here.

Surprise your beloved one or simply a very special friend with some roses or a book. And if you are planning an even bigger surprise perhaps book an apartment in Barcelona. You never know it could be the start of an amazing journey together?

Happy Sant Jordi!
